In this contemporary, open floor plan, the challenge was to create intimate areas with separate functions, while addressing flow and continuity of aesthetics. By committing to a particular silhouette with unexpected nuances, we were able to create an overall harmonious space, and individualize the basic condo format.
Our furniture plan differentiated the space and identified areas for TV viewing, entertaining and dining. We selected furniture from contemporary resources at attractive price points to stay within budget. Our bronze/red/gold scheme mixed with dark woods was a sophisticated combination of elements. The basic and neutral finishes that once had limited appeal, were no longer a focal point because of the juxtaposition of texture, pattern, matte and iridescent fabrics. This provided enough highlight to offset the monotony of the existing standard cabinetry and tile.
The windows throughout demanded creative solutions because of their height, width, and where they interacted with the soffits. On one given window, the soffit would not be equal on both sides. Because of the immense exposure from the windows, the clients required a privacy sunshade, as well as operable sheers and a decorative stationary panel. The clients wanted to take full advantage of the view of the exterior and natural light during the day. At the same time, they were concerned about the privacy at night with the use of these light transparent materials. Since there was no drywall above the windows, we came up with a solution by mounting a custom metal fascia to the lid of the soffit to create maximum height and to align with the top of the window.
